Patchway Visits Gauting 5th - 8th October 2017

So, in our nominal 15th anniversary year we were invited to Gauting to spend a long weekend in the lovely countryside of Bavaria.

Somewhat disjointed travel arrangements this time with various small groups arriving at Munich Airport on Wednesday evening and Thursday.

Four of us opted for the very civilised but a little more expensive BMI flight direct from Bristol to Munich and then adventurously trying our hand on the S-Bahn to our Twin Town.

Twinning Exchange May 17th - 21st Visit from Gauting

We will be welcoming the Mayor, Town Clerk and visitors from Gauting on the 17th May 2017.
The Mayor of Clermont L'Herault will also pay a flying visit as a courtesy to our anniversary year. He will be accompanied by his PA and Finance Officer.
Our draft programme will include a Civic Dinner, a day in and around Patchway, a day trip to Exmoor National Park, a day with hosts and a farewell dinner before the flight home on Sunday evening.
We have been invited to Gauting in October.
All enquiries to John Thomas via the contact form.

U.K. Exit from EU

We would like to say that for all of us in the Patchway Twinning Association nothing has changed.

Politics may have changed but the friendships we have built over the last twenty years will remain as firm as ever.

The concept of Twinning began just after WWII long before the concept of the Federal State of Europe and we are sure that it will endure for a long time to come as long as we can get the younger people of Europe to abandon their computers, tablets, smartphones and "Social Media" and join the people who live in the real world.

Future Events

We have planned further events for this year starting in March when we will hold our belated Christmas Dinner, it has slipped so many times that it is now our "Annual Dinner". This will be held at Filton Golf Club 7.15pm for 7.30pm on Fiday 11th March.

We will hold a Wine Tasting Evening sponsored by Tesco at Patchway Community Centre on Friday 6th May at 7.30pm

Quiz Fundraising Event

We held a Quiz Fundraiser on the 19th February and it turned into a really good evening.

Our thanks to Tom Counsell (Our Treasurer) for putting all the questions together and acting as MC for the evening.

Thanks also to Marian and Ann for buying and preparing the buffet and to Win who, no matter how well we advertised the event, diligently phoned around around and got 40 people including non-members to the event, and helped with the cleaning up.

Without the support of these lifelong members I am sure you would agree some events would be impossilble to organise.

New Year 2016

We wish all our friends in Gauting and Clermont l'Herault a Very Happy New Year and we hope our relationship will grow even stronger over the years to come.

Twinning Exchange with Clermont l'Herault October 2015

This was another good exchange between our town associations.
It was different in a way as many of the people who we met were new to twinning, but nevertheless the soon picked up the informality of our relationship and new friendships were formed over the 4 day period.
It was a similar format as we use here in Patchway where many of the members use their own cars to get to the events and all meet up as one group. In the past where there had been more ambitious exchanges coaches were needed to get to the venue sites.

Proposed visit to Clermont l'Herault Early October

We have received an official invitation to visit our twin town from the Marie.

The dates are from Friday 2nd October until Monday 5th October.

There is a full itinerary and it appears as if any free time will be very limited.

We are flying from Bristol to Beziers via Ryanair and will be met at Beziers airport by the members of the Jumalage for our short trip to Clermont.

School Exchange with Gauting

We have just received 6 young people from our twin town of Gauting.
The Realschule, their secondary school, has renewed their annual visit to allow 6 of their students to have work experiance in the schools around Patchway.
Many thanks to Richard Clark of the Cosmos Academy for organising the placement of the children in the schools.
Stoke Lodge, Callicroft and St Chads Primary Schools took part this year and had two students each.
All splendid news for our local schools as they have all achieved GOOD in the latest round of OFSTED inspections.

Exchange visit to Clermont l'Herault

We have been invited to Clermont l'Herault between the 2nd and 5th of October.
We are sending a delegation of around 12 people for the exchange which, although short, I am sure it will be very interesting.
All those wishing to go should contact Mrs Lucy Hamid, the address is as published in the latest newsletter.
For all those who have put their names down the flight is from Bristol on Friday 2nd October, around midday and returns on Monday 5th around 4pm local time.
