Turmoil in Patchway

I must apologise to all our members and friends in the tripartite twinning between ourselves, Gauting and Clermont l'Herault.

We have had many months of turmoil within the council at Patchway, which is only now beginning to settle into a stable situation.

In the process we have lost our long time secretary and first point of contact between the twin towns. It will take a while to put everything back in place but a good start was made with the Clerk of the Council in Gauting coming over to meet with his new counterpart in Patchway.

Invitation for the Chairman to visit Clermont.

The Jumalage in Clermont l'Herault invited the Chair to attend a meeting in Clermont while a delegation from Gauting was present.

The proposed dates were from 26th - 30th October 2019

On checking travel arrangements it appears that the summer schedule for flights to Beziers (Ryanair) or Montpellier (easyjet) cease on the 23rd of October. BA in Heathrow have nothing available.

Patchway Twinning Association AGM

The Annual General Meeting for 2019 will be held in the Patchway Community Centre, Lounge at 7 pm. All welcome

45th Anniversary between Gauting and Clermont l'Herault.

A small official delegation was invited to Clermont l'Herault on May 18th to celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the twinning between the two towns.

The deputy Mayor, Elaine Martin her husband Paul and their daughter went out early as they had hired a house in a village near to the Lac du Salagou, very handy as a lot of the activities were there!

The Twinning was represented by John Thomas and his wife Marian, who travelled out on the 18th May via Bristol/Beziers courtesy of Ryanair.

Two youth workers and 4 young people also travelled out on the same flight.

Patchway Visits Gauting 5th - 8th October 2017

So, in our nominal 15th anniversary year we were invited to Gauting to spend a long weekend in the lovely countryside of Bavaria.

Somewhat disjointed travel arrangements this time with various small groups arriving at Munich Airport on Wednesday evening and Thursday.

Four of us opted for the very civilised but a little more expensive BMI flight direct from Bristol to Munich and then adventurously trying our hand on the S-Bahn to our Twin Town.

Twinning Exchange May 17th - 21st Visit from Gauting

We will be welcoming the Mayor, Town Clerk and visitors from Gauting on the 17th May 2017.
The Mayor of Clermont L'Herault will also pay a flying visit as a courtesy to our anniversary year. He will be accompanied by his PA and Finance Officer.
Our draft programme will include a Civic Dinner, a day in and around Patchway, a day trip to Exmoor National Park, a day with hosts and a farewell dinner before the flight home on Sunday evening.
We have been invited to Gauting in October.
All enquiries to John Thomas via the contact form.

U.K. Exit from EU

We would like to say that for all of us in the Patchway Twinning Association nothing has changed.

Politics may have changed but the friendships we have built over the last twenty years will remain as firm as ever.

The concept of Twinning began just after WWII long before the concept of the Federal State of Europe and we are sure that it will endure for a long time to come as long as we can get the younger people of Europe to abandon their computers, tablets, smartphones and "Social Media" and join the people who live in the real world.

Future Events

We have planned further events for this year starting in March when we will hold our belated Christmas Dinner, it has slipped so many times that it is now our "Annual Dinner". This will be held at Filton Golf Club 7.15pm for 7.30pm on Fiday 11th March.

We will hold a Wine Tasting Evening sponsored by Tesco at Patchway Community Centre on Friday 6th May at 7.30pm

Quiz Fundraising Event

We held a Quiz Fundraiser on the 19th February and it turned into a really good evening.

Our thanks to Tom Counsell (Our Treasurer) for putting all the questions together and acting as MC for the evening.

Thanks also to Marian and Ann for buying and preparing the buffet and to Win who, no matter how well we advertised the event, diligently phoned around around and got 40 people including non-members to the event, and helped with the cleaning up.

Without the support of these lifelong members I am sure you would agree some events would be impossilble to organise.

New Year 2016

We wish all our friends in Gauting and Clermont l'Herault a Very Happy New Year and we hope our relationship will grow even stronger over the years to come.
